By Wah!

On this double-disc collection, Wah! explores kirtans in a variety of ways, some with solo vocal performances and some in the traditional call-and-response fashion. Hare Ram and Jai Ma offer simple, traditional frameworks for chants and then she goes all the way to incorporating jazz, reggae, and calypso-tinged melodies and grooves on Radhe Bhaj and Ambe Mata, making for both cheerful and introspective moods and deliveries on a varied and laid back album that does what Wah! does best…. connect you to a higher dimension, that sacred space… that higher power! Lovers of kirtan will adore this album and, for those who don’t, Wah!’s expert musical prowess might just convince you…

By Kailash (HayHouse Books)

Chanting your way beyond ego and into bliss is the purpose of this authentically created CD. It uses chanting as a way to stabilize the mind and expand the heart towards an experience of the Divine. Elevating emotions and reducing self-centeredness is the focus of the practice and this unique blend of music and mantra can be used as a resource for cultivating wellbeing and spiritual evolution. Most kirtans don’t have as many instrumental pieces in them, but Kailash’s kirtans have wonderful blends of a variety of instrumentations.
