International Jivamukti Teacher coming to SA- 5th -6th May
Petros is an Advanced Jivamukti Yoga Teacher who lives, teaches and sings in Munich, Germany and gives workshops, kirtans and retreats throughout the planet. He wants to inspire his students to do – whatever you do – in full awareness, and to do it with your heart. So we can always return to that place where, independently from outer circumstance, we always will find peace: within our hearts. Many times we’ll meet obstacles on this path: our intellect, our body, our expectations and preferences. Yoga gives us the possibility to free ourselves from these hindrances that keep us from experiencing our true nature – that, what we really are: free, wild, full of love and joy – without conditioning, without fear. He is thankful for all teachers and circumstance that give us the chance to experience this feeling of unity, of non-separateness – to eventually learn to accept the greatest of all teachers: our life itself.

Jivamukti Yoga Philosophy and Practice
5th May – 13:00-16:00 @ Living Yoga, JHB
Transform yourself with Jivamukti Yoga. A workshop to meet and learn about the 5 tenets of Jivamukti Yoga: A Jivamukti Yoga class involves an ever changing flow of postures (vinyasa) that is intended to challenge you on many levels. Each class revolves around a theme based on ancient wisdom and emphasizes the importance of practicing with an elevated intention. Chanting, meditation, and inspiring music are a part of every class.

The five tenets of Jivamukti Yoga are:
Scripture ~ source teachings from the ancient Sanskrit scriptures.
Bhakti ~ devotion; finding a greater purpose for our lives.
Ahimsa ~ non-harming; understanding how our actions affect other beings.
Music ~ Nada Yoga (the yoga of sound), chanting and listening to good music.
Meditation ~ turning inwards and reconnecting to our true selves
Cost: R350

Yoga philosophy lecture and Kirtan
5th May – 19-00-22:00 @ Living Yoga, JHB
Freedom as a concept cannot be clearly defined because it deals with a state that is dependent upon individual experience. To put it another way, freedom can only be experienced when it can be contrasted with its counterpart, ‘non-freedom.’ This ‘non-freedom’ might be of a bodily nature, such as a physical disability, a geographical or psychological nature, just to name a couple of possibilities, each with innumerable different individual consequences. So in this context, some sort of ‘non-freedom’ must exist in order to finally achieve freedom. Any freedom would be relative to the ‘non-freedom’ personally experienced.

Moksha is the principle of unconditional freedom, a state independent of our location, environment, and all other particular circumstances. Continuous practice reveals the conditional interaction between the ego and the world as we perceive it through our senses. Anyone who has discovered this holds the key to his own freedom in his hand. The Jivanmukta experiences this kind of freedom in this body, now, not as a possibility somewhere down the road. He experiences and accepts this world as the creative force of which he is an expression. Any mental or physical tendency is possible here and is a part of the whole. Whoever understands this has released himself from all situational freedoms, because in the end there is only this one.

Kirtan
Music is something moving, the proof of the Greek quote “panta rei – always flowing” And when the further ingredients are devotion and prensence, something magic can happen, something that has been described by yogis as “ananda – bliss”. This state is nothing far, fixed or framed. It is the state, when intuition, strength and spirit harmonise in the Now. Harmonies are the foundation of music – and so we come together to spontaniously experience, what the word itself actually describes: Harmony (greek: armonia: to bring together; the union of opposites to one whole). So the greek root of the word, that describes the union of opposites is nothing other than something very familiar to us: Yoga!
Cost: R350

Backbending Workshop
6th May – 13:00-16:00 @ Living Yoga, JHB
You will find a safe and invigorating class for all levels of practitioners in this workshop. Bending over backwards is as difficult as it is essential to a balanced yoga practice and life. You will feel confident and restored from the gradual opening postures. Then you will proceed to more difficult postures with enthusiasm and fearlessness. This class will build a knowledge of essential key ingredients of the safe and sane backbending class that will be invaluable to your practice of yoga.
Cost: R350

Kriya/Asana/Pranayama- A Jivamukti Yoga Workshop
6th May – 17:00-20:00 @ Living Yoga, JHB
Patanjali discribes the ashtanga yoga, the eight-limbed yoga path in his Yoga-Sutras. A possible aprroach to an open perspective, deep understanding and the experience of our unlimeted potential and creativity. The different practices allow us to slowly sharpen our focus on the unchangable true nature of our existence, which we eventually meet within us. Due to our way of living, our diet, social conditioning – due to our definition of what’s real or not (mostly given through the collective consciousness of our enviroment) and our perception, based upon those principles, a honest view on our own truth, covered by this veil becomes rather difficult. In this workshop we will approach parts of those practices and establish a possible connection to our great potential. With kriyas and practices of nada-yoga (the yoga of sound) we will clense our koshas (body-layers) deeply – so a feeling of clarity and balance can arise. When the body, mind and breath are cleared and opened through those practices, we set the base for a dynamic, challenging asana-practice (for all levels, some experience is recommended, though). What we started with kriyas, we will continue with asana on a more subtle level. Becoming aware of the energy within us, we will then begin a journey towards our very core – through pranayama, conscious, focused breathing we eventually arrive at a point of clarity, peace and freedom. Finally, here we find total silence. A silence that doesn’t occur through the outside, but arises from within, with a smile….

ABOUT KAHUNA MASSAGE
Originating in Polynesia 5 000 years ago, this ancient profoundly healing bodywork is unlike anything you have ever experienced!

Using forearms, hands and elbows in deep, dynamic, flowing strokes, the practitioner uses intuition and focused intention to release physical and energetic blockages and restore health and balance to body, mind and spirit.

Honouring the body’s innate wisdom and ability to self heal, this transformational bodywork is gentle and yet very powerful. It will leave you feeling more in touch with yourself and with greater awareness of your thoughts and feelings and their impact on your health and life. The natural dance, like rhythm, much like the ebb and flow of the ocean, lulls one into deep relaxation. As core layers of tension are revealed and released, you will feel more connected to self and to life, open, at ease, balanced, light and alive!

Anthea has always been a curious and adventurous spirit with an innate calling to inspire and add beauty in life. Her interest in the humanities led her to complete a Psychology degree after matriculating. She soon realised that she was searching for another way of accessing the psyche and facilitating healing. She began to explore healing modalities and 20 years ago qualified as a reflexologist, massage therapist and shortly after that a Reiki master. It was on one of many travels abroad that she experienced the healing power of Kahuna massage for herself. She began her studies with internationally renowned teacher, Mette Sorensen, in Australia 15 years ago and has been sharing this ancient, healing bodywork in South Africa ever since. Anthea has worked with thousands of individuals and has taught hundreds of gifted Kahuna bodyworkers during this time. As she says, “It is my joy and privilege to share this life-changing work with you too!”
