Forrest Yoga

Origins: Developed in the United States by Ana Forrest, a pioneer in yoga for emotional healing, Forrest yoga is a meaningful way for the sacred exploration of truth, wholeness, and health. Having studied a multitude of yoga styles and healing modalities, Ana is a living example of a spirit who has freed herself from the bondage of trauma, and chosen a warrior’s path of compassion.

Teachings: Forrest yoga uses asanas (postures), focused concentration on specific body parts, and pranayama (breathing techniques) to integrate the body with mind and mind with soul. The pillars of Forrest yoga are “Breath, Strength, Integrity and Spirit”. Forrest yoga will teach you to go deeper, find your truth and encourage you to take these gifts you have earned beyond the mat into the rest of your life.

Class focus: As a beginner to Forrest yoga, you learn to breathe deeply and connect in feeling with your body. Specific focus is on strengthening the core muscles. As you progress, you get proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you; particularly with physical and emotional injuries.

Who can practice? All ages and body types. Forrest yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires that you bring a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly.

Teacher training: The Forrest yoga teacher training is a registered RYS 200 course through Yoga Alliance, and fulfills the 200-hour teacher training requirement. The course runs over a 22-day series and includes meditation and mantra – taught from the Native American tradition – morning asana intensives and afternoon lectures and assignments.

Philosophy: “Our mission is to create in each of us a sense of freedom, a connection to our spirit and the courage to walk as our spirit dictates” – Ana Forrest
