A NEW INTRODUCTORY COURSE OF TEN LESSONS

What is Sanskrit?
Sanskrit is among the earliest attested members of the Indo-European language family and is a premier classical language. Sanskrit, as such, is known as Sanskrit because it is measured, refined and ordered. Sanskrit is the perfect vehicle of the Ancient Oral Tradition and the wisdom of the Vedas and Upanishads. It is a uniquely complete sound and grammar system, where each sound is prescribed, meaningful and promotes the language of the spoken word, chants and mantras.

Why Study Sanskrit?
It is hoped that the study of the Sanskrit language will awaken in the student the pursuit of the discovery of truth, which is an inherent impulse in all human beings.

Course Structure

Introductory Sanskrit Course
This provides a sound introduction to the language,
equipping the student to read and write before continuing on with one of the following:

Examination Route
This prepares the student to write the Basic Sanskrit Examination after two years of study. Once completed, the student may wish to write the Intermediate Sanskrit Examination. Historically, examinations have been issued by the Cambridge International Examination Board.

Non-Examination Route
This is for those students who are interested in studying the Vedas and Upanishads. It consists of the Basic Sanskrit Level, preparing the student for a basic understanding of elementary Sanskrit grammar and the use of the Sanskrit/English Dictionary. This course runs for six terms and may be followed by the Intermediate Sanskrit Level where students will be introduced to the study of the Pāṇini grammar system.e study of the Pāṇini grammar system.
