Meds – not the only cure for headaches!

lavendarMeds – not the only cure for headaches!

Popping a pill each time you get a headache is one way to treat the problem. According to Dr Shevel of the Headache Society of South Africa, many of the medications prescribed for treating headaches have serious and long-lasting effects, such as upset stomach, vomiting, drowsiness, excessive sweating, and changes in appetite or weight.

Before popping a tablet at the onset of a headache, try alternative treatments like doing spinal twists which are very beneficial in releasing trapped tension in the neck and spine. Simply massaging the scalp and temples also aids in headache release as well as smelling lavender oil – which has healing properties well-known for the release of tension. You can also try Posture Modifying Appliances that work to reduce muscular tenderness available from the Headache Clinic on (011) 484-0933.

    Hi there
I suffer from tension headaches – approx 3-4 a week; I also get Migraine headaches – approx 1-2 times a month co-inciding with menstrual period; as well as Sinus headaches, approx 2-3 times per week. I am the queen of headaches and no day goes by without suffering one of the above.
What could you offer (if not medicine) besides de-stressing techniques, stress-eliminating methods (anti-depressants) and tension-relieving?

I feel for you Debbie, headaches can be debilitating. I’ve recently done the Art of Living course and other cleansing and purifying techniques and in the detox process suffered from intense headaches.

I just kept drinking fresh water and allowing all the toxins to release and now I’m happy to say that I’m headache free and much clearer, not fully cleansed but now my sessions of detox are easier to handle.

Good luck, and check out the headache clinic, I’m sure that they’ll help you out.
